HomeFirst Services Hallam - Plumber Melbourne
About
HomeFirst Services (trading locally as PlumbFirst) is based in Hallam, Melbourne, and holds a 3.9 average from 1,262 Google reviews, noticeably lower than most other businesses in this list. Reviews are mixed: several describe successful hot water unit repairs, leak diagnosis behind shower walls, and rainwater tank pump installations completed with upfront quotes. However, other reviews raise serious concerns, including a dispute over air-conditioning installation charges for an elderly customer and a complaint about a very high hourly rate for a leak that was not resolved. Prospective customers should weigh this wider range of experiences carefully.

Exceptional After‑Sales Service – A Rare Standard in Australia The team at HomeFirst Services deserve recognition for the way they handled a major issue with my ducted air‑conditioning installation. A significant defect in the system caused water damage and a partial ceiling collapse in my home — a stressful situation for any homeowner. What impressed me was not just that HomeFirst responded, but how they responded. From the moment I notified them, senior management — Jesse, Jason and Anthony — personally took ownership of the problem. They didn’t deflect, delay, or make excuses. Instead, they mobilised their team immediately, arranged urgent inspections, and committed the company’s resources to fully rectify both the air‑conditioning fault and all resulting property damage. This all happened during the Christmas festive season, when most companies slow down or disappear entirely. Yet Jesse and Jason prioritised the issue, stayed in direct contact, and ensured everything was made safe and repaired as quickly as possible. Their professionalism, accountability, and genuine commitment to customer care are rare in the Australian trades and home‑services industry. While no one wants defects or damage, what truly defines them as a company is how they responded when something went wrong. HomeFirst’s after‑sales service has been outstanding, and they’ve earned my respect and recommendation. If you’re looking for a company that stands behind its work — not just at installation, but long after — HomeFirst Services have proven they take that responsibility seriously. — Simon D.
My elderly parents in there late 80s had there old air condition replaced with a new one they had bought. This company charged them $1200 and left like this. Numerous calls again they came out and quoted $1900 to put a frame around it. After more calls and discussions they came out and fixed it “without charge”. Dissapointed that a veteran was taken advantage of
Zero communication! Booked a call out for a quotation yesterday and was supposed to come out this morning. We are waiting at the site and no one turns up so we called the office. And turns out the call out was cancelled because they don’t do new connections anymore. No message left to inform me they have cancelled the booking. Wasting our time!
I called home first at 1:30PM with a bust pipe. They managed to move some jobs around and arrived within 60 min. Jason arrived and was very calm, considering we had water flowing through my kitchen.. thanks for a quick well priced fix.. will use again
Recently had a sewer unblocked by HomeFirst Services Hallam. They were on time, communicated well and were cost competitive. Ali was able to unblock the drain without needing to remove the toilet which saved both hassle and cost.
Great communication but expensive. Also be aware that their model is to effectively force you to use their supplied products as they won’t give warranty to any customer-supplied products even if they have a manufacturer’s warranty on them. I just paid $1277 for a gooseneck tap supply and install (accepted it based on the “now” principle in a rental property) and just checked cost to buy same tap is $285 at Tradelink. So I’m basically paying $1000 for installation that took <45 mins! Hats off to them for gouging profitability but I don’t think I’ll use again.
Update: I received a call from Rich after posting my Google review. Rich informed me that his business in Sydney had purchased plumfirst in Melbourne a year prior and was unaware of my experience with Adam & my attempts to follow up. Rich said that a new manager has recently been relocated to Melbourne to run plumfirst. Rich organized a full refund for me which was greatly appreciated. ______________________ SCAM - DO NOT use Homefirst or Plumfirst. They are looking to make sales and rip you off on basic repairs. Adam took advantage of the fact the water in my shower wouldn't stop running by using misleading language on the work he was doing - implied he was changing over full taps when it was just washers. Spent most of the time trying sell me a hot water system that I needed to purchase urgently for $5k when the system he spoke about is between $2k-$3k. When I said no, they charged me $574 to change over only the washers. Cheap quality parts & a rush job meant that 2 months later I have had to have a qualified (& not dodgy) plumber come and do the work I was quoted on and paid for but did receive when Plumbfirst "worked on" my shower. When I tried to follow up - receptionist wouldn't put my call through and emails were ignored. You might as well burn your cash - same outcome.
